Help send Jenna to the National Poetry Slam in Madison, WI.

Dear Family and Friends,

I never ask you for a thing...but I am making a plea now. I and the YMCA need your help!

Some of you know already...but for those of you who don't...

Last month, here in Amarillo, Texas, we had the city-wide Poetry Grand Slam.

A Slam, for those of you who may not know...is a 3-round competition where poets perform their original poetry for judges who score on a scale from 0.0-10.0. The very best poets, who have to accumulate a certain number of points, win slams, etc...competed for the title of Amarillo Grand Slam Champ.

That said title now belongs to me! Your sister, daughter, grand-daughter, friend...IS the Amarillo Grand Slam Champ!

What does this mean, you ask?

Well, it means that I am eligible to compete with the Amarillo Team (top scoring poets from that night) in Madison, WI in August against all the other teams from around the country. It also means that I am representing Amarillo in Charlotte, North Carolina in December at the Individual World Poetry Slam with 80 top poets from around the globe.

Yikes.

Other good news...I created a venue a year ago at the YMCA (where I work) to give this same opportunity to teens in the area...we have a team of 5 talented young people who will compete in Washington, D.C. and participate with professional poets in workshops and one-on-one sessions...for some of them, this will be a ONCE in a LIFETIME experience.

WE ALL NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

Our biggest expense is flights. If you have frequent flyer miles that you would be willing to transfer for flights to: Washington, D.C. for the Teens Madison, WI for me and my team members Charlotte, N.C. for me in December
